Working in conjunction with Lancashire County Council, the Lancashire Infantry Museum provides unique and historically-authentic locations for interactive learning. At present interactive education sessions for pupils studying World War I at Key Stages 2 & 3 are offered, but it is intended that new sessions covering World War II at the same levels will be available in the near future.

A CALL TO ARMS - KS 2 & 3 (2 hours)

Through active participation, role play and experience-based learning, take a fresh new look at World War I, within our unique and inspiring venue.

Take a journey back in time and have an experience like no other. Join our WWI Recruitment Officer and Regimental Sergeant as they recruit you into the British Army. In this fully interactive and inspirational learning experience, discover the "joys" of square-bashing, learn about and handle basic equipment, explore the causes of World War I, and delve into regimental histories.

The Recruitment Officer will then take you to his authentic WWI office where he will explain what it means to sign up for the Army, and if you are deemed ready you will be given your Attestation Papers to sign.

Our Sergeant will take you through all the information you need to survive in the trenches. He will teach you about trench slang, food, hygiene, the safest time to go to the toilet and much, much more. He will even tell you the tale of how the museum's Maxim machine gun was captured in battle.
Interactive learning!
