This Day in History: 1776-01-29

Captain James Henry Craig calls “all Friendly Brothers of St Patrick in the army” to meeting of the Principal Knot of the 47th Regiment (later 1st Loyals) at the Bunch of Grapes Tavern, Boston, Massachusetts, to discuss how they might commemorate the Saint’s day. Thus the Regiment may make some claim to have started the tradition which today sees the massive annual celebrations of St Patrick’s Day in America.
