This Day in History: 1750-04-26

In Derby, the fate of Lascelles Regiment (later 47th Foot, and then 1st Loyals), then stationed in Ireland, is decided by a roll of dice on a drumhead. Three Regimental Colonels have to decide which of their regiments will fulfill an order from London. Peregrine Lascelles loses, and as a result 290 private soldiers, 130 women, and 50 children find themselves under orders for the newly-founded frontier town of Halifax, Nova Scotia.
