This Day In History: 1775-07-25

Just one week after the Battle of Bunker’s Hill outside the city, 40th Regiment (later 1st South Lancashires) disembark in Boston to reinforce the British troops fighting the American colonists, who are now in open revolt. For many in the Regiment it is a return to their homeland, the 40th having spent the first 47 years of its existence in North America. It had been on home establishment in Ireland for only 10 years.
