This Day in History: 1858-11-19

At last, in Hong Kong the 59th Regiment (later 2nd East Lancashires) board the troopship Lord Raglan, with 26 officers, 644 other ranks, 14 women and 22 children, under orders for the Cape of Good Hope. They are not best pleased. After 8 years of suffering in the disease-stricken colony, and active service in the 2nd Opium War, they had hoped for the reward of a home posting.
