This Day in History: 1964-04-18

Freedom of Haslingden (Rossendale), Lancashire, granted to the East Lancashire Regiment, through its 4th Battalion,Territorial Army, the Regiment’s only remaining element, giving it the right to march through the town “with Colours flying, drums beating and bayonets fixed.” The Regular Army battalion had amalgamated with the South Lancashire Regiment in 1958 to form the Lancashire Regiment (PWV).
