This Day in History: 1776-11-16

Battle of Fort Washington, New York. At the northern tip of Manhattan Island, the flank and Grenadier companies of the 40th Foot (later 1st South Lancashires) form part of the force which, after stubborn resistance, captures the last Colonialist stronghold in New York, together with nearly 3,000 prisoners and an immense store of weapons and munitions.
