Siege of Namur. French-held fortress finally surrenders. It has been a baptism of blood for the 6-year-old Saunderson’s Regiment (later 1st East Lancashiries), earliest of our antecedent regiments. 3 Officers and 80 NCO’s and men have been killed or died of wounds, and a further 6 officers and 112 other ranks have been wounded.
