This Day in History: 1795-06-10

844 men of the 1st/82nd Regiment (later 2nd South Lancashires), embark at Gibraltar for the West Indies. When the Regiment disembarks at Gravesend, on return from the disease-ridden islands just 3 and a half years later, it consists of just 22 Sergeants and drummers, very, very few of whom, if any, were Gibraltar originals.
