After the Crimean War, 30th Foot (later 1st East Lancashires) embark in Brunel’s famous steamship SS Great Britain under orders for Gibraltar. In two years of active service, their losses in action or from disease were 13 officers, 17 sergeants, 3 drummers, 13 corporals, and 402 privates.
