This Day in History: 1854-05-12

30th Regiment (later 1st East Lancashires) joins the 47th Regiment (later 1st Loyals) at Scutari, opposite Constantinople, as part of the 2nd Division, part of the British Army concentrating for the Crimean War. They are quartered in the huge Turkish barracks there, later to become famous as the British base hospital where Florence Nightingale effected her nursing reforms
