Lt Col Mordaunt Elrington, who had commanded 2nd Loyals in the battle for Singapore and then led his men through 3 years of privations as prisoners of the Japanese, is re-appointed as Commanding Officer of the replacement 2nd Loyals, then serving with the Army of Occupation in Austria, barely 6 months after he was released from POW camp in Korea.
