This Day in History: 1724-07-04

Party of 60 Mi’kmaq and Abernaki Indians raid the settlement of Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia, garrisoned by Philipps’ Regiment (later 40th Foot, and then 1st South Lancashires). A sergeant and a private are killed and scalped. In retaliation, a Mi’kmaq prisoner is shot and scalped on the same spot.
