This Day in History: 1702-02-12

Saunderson’s Regiment, later 30th Foot and then 1st East Lancashires, re-formed in Lincolnshire as a regiment of marines, having been disbanded just under 4 years before. For the first time, they wear the red uniform coat of the British infantry, with pale yellow – ‘primrose’ – facings, establishing a regimental tradition which, over 200 years later, was proudly carried on by their successors the East Lancashire, Lancashire (PWV) and Queen’s Lancashire Regiments as the backing colour behind their cap badges.
