Battle of The Bulge. Committed to counter-attack the German thrust through the Ardennes, and after five days of hard fighting in the woods in severe arctic conditions, and without armoured support, 1st East Lancashires assault and capture the village of Grimbiemont. The position is strongly-held by German tanks and infantry, and casualties are heavy, 11 officers and 232 men.
