Allies invade Italian island of Pantellaria, 1/2 way between Siciliy and North Africa. 1st Loyals in first assault wave, but 12,000-strong Italian garrison surrenders as soon as the first craft reaches the beach. They had been pounded by 14,203 bombs over 10 days, and one hour of Naval bombardment. Churchill recorded that the only British casualty was one man bitten by a mule.
