D-Day. Allies invade Normandy. 1st South Lancashires assault and carry Queen White Beach in the first wave, at cost of the Commanding Officer, 4 more officers, and 13 men killed, 6 officers and 83 men wounded, and another 19 men missing. The officer casualties were disproportionately high because the CO’s O Group took a direct hit from a mortar round.
